Party Time!

It has been beyond crazy lately trying to get a house we have been living in for less than three months ready enough to entertain a large number of family members. Why do I need to have them over? My baby is turning one!

It is hard to believe that my baby boy is already one. He walks, he talks; where did the time go?

My family is great, but sometimes they can be a little judgemental. My mother will comment on how the kitchen is not painted yet. My grandma, who has a keen eye for dust, will let me know if I missed a spot. One of my aunts makes the cakes for everyone’s birthday parties, but I told her I wanted to do this one myself and I am sure she will let me know if it is not up to standards.

I know MJ will have lots of fun tomorrow, but I sure will not. Who ever really has fun hosting the party; making sure drinks are full, there are enough snacks out…

Somehow I managed to pull together the time to write a little more for the Yahoo Contributor Network so if anyone is interested in reading one of the two articles, here they are: “Words of Wisdom” and “My Son Creates his own Photo Ops.”

Hopefully after tomorrow afternoon, I will still be sane enough to post a few pictures of the birthday boy and of the main rooms of the house that have finally been finished. I am so proud of what CJ and I have been able to do on our own. CJ even built me my dining room table! I think it is beyond gorgeous and I never knew he was so handy. 🙂

Bed early tonight beccause I have a dragon cake to finish in the morning. Rawr! 😀

YCN

Today marks my first day as a published writer on the Yahoo Contributor Network. I know it is not a lot; CJ tells me all the time that anyone can publish stuff on there, but it is a step in the right direction for me. Anything that furthers my writing career is okay in my book. It is not a very big article, there was only a 400 word limit after all, but I am proud of it anyway.

There are still far too many boxes to be unpacked and MJ is having a field day trying to get into every single one. It is really hard to unpack around children; I am glad we only have one at the moment 🙂

CJ tried with all his might to get the wireless working so I could be up and running on here, but for all his efforts, he just could not seem to make it work. He is normally such an IT wizard that we were both shocked he could not make it work. Surprisingly enough, I am the one who got it to work although if you asked me I could not tell you how I did it.

MJ has been taking four or five steps only for the most part, but I just saw him walk across an entire room! He is only 10 months old!! Where did the time go? It really needs to slow down and it can happen at any time now.

Nap time for the little guy now, so time to get some unpacking done. All but one room that we wanted painted is done so no more pink! Will post a few pictures once there are less boxes to mar the view.

Walking in the Dark

This conversation occurred one night while my fiance and I were going for a walk down my road. It was dark, so we had taken flashlights with us. I must admit that sometimes I get scared a little too easily, but he always manages to make me feel better.

“Heh! What was that?”

“What was what?”

“That noise!”

“What noise?”

I tried to grab his flashlight to shine it around and give me a better feel of my surroundings. I’ve walked this road a million times, but it’s really scary in the dark.

“You really didn’t hear that scraping noise?”

“Babe, it was just a stick.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“It sounded just like a stick.”

“Maybe it was an animal…” -he shot me an incredulous look- “that’s shaped like a stick?” I tried to amend.

“Yeah, okay. Or maybe it’s an animal with a peg leg. It got into some sort of accident and someone took it to the vet and the vet gave it a peg leg to walk around on.”

I couldn’t help herself, I started to laugh. The stuff that he comes up with…

“Or maybe it has some sort of stick replacing its tail,” he said. “It wasn’t really necessary; more of a cosmetic surgery. It just didn’t feel like a real animal without a tail.”

“You are such an idiot,” I had somehow managed  to say between giggles. “But thank you for making me feel better.”
