Free Books

I usually never win anything, so when I do, I am super excited. A few weeks ago, I won a mystery book giveaway on Twitter from one of my favorite authors. When the package arrived, I was able to tell there was more than one book in it. I was stoked because this particular author had recently released a trilogy I had not read yet. I thought I would not have to go out and buy it. Yay!

When I opened the package, I will admit I was more than a little disappointed. This really had been a mystery book giveaway. The books were not even by the author who hosted the contest; it was a trilogy by someone else. I read the books anyway – and even put reviews on Goodreads – because who does not love free books? I still would have preferred books by the author I already knew and liked though.

These are the books I won. A trilogy about werewolves whose change is dictated by the temperature. It was an interesting take on a popular subject. The female protagonist was very hard to like at times because she was rude and disrespectful. The final ending (of the last book in the trilogy) was too neat and tidy. For the story to make sense and have a chance of being “realistic,” someone needed to die. And I knew just who I wanted to die by then…

Thanks for the free books, but next time you are giving away books you did not write yourself, a little heads up would be nice. Maybe I would not have played…Well, that is a lie. Any free book is a good book. And then if you do not like it, and it is in good condition, you can always re-gift it. But SHH…you did not hear that from me. 🙂

Email

Today I started email addresses for MJ and Q. I read that it is a great way to share moments and media with your children as you give them the password once they are older.

As so much of what we do today is digital and easy, we cannot possibly print out all the pictures we take. My parents house was full of photo albums, but most of my pictures are lost in an electronic wasteland. If I send the picture to the kids while it is fresh in my head, I will not forget about its existence and be able to share these wonderful things with MJ and Q. They are supposed to have lots of pictures of their childhood; and embarrassing ones too! 🙂

I hope they appreciate everything I will be putting in to this project. I am pretty excited about it.

Postpartum Depression?

Seven days ago, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and I am one proud mama!

After MJ’s birth, I did not really suffer from Postpartum Depression. I was definitely more emotional than normal (crying at commercial, etc.) by I did not have any severe feelings. After this birth, I have an irrational fear that I cannot keep both my babies; that I will have to choose between them. I think this stems from the fact that every day since we have brought Q home, I have had to watch MJ grow more independent. He will go in his toy room alone and entertain himself without asking for someone to come in and keep him company. If I am feeding his sister before bedtime, MJ will sit alone on the sofa instead of snuggling in my lap like was our routine.

I know I should be happy, but these things make me so nervous that he thinks he has been replaced and that mommy does not love him anymore – hence the fear of being able to only keep one of them.

I do not know any other moms who have suffered through any type of Postpartum Depression or the like. Any advice that could be given, would be greatly appreciated.

Party Time!

It has been beyond crazy lately trying to get a house we have been living in for less than three months ready enough to entertain a large number of family members. Why do I need to have them over? My baby is turning one!

It is hard to believe that my baby boy is already one. He walks, he talks; where did the time go?

My family is great, but sometimes they can be a little judgemental. My mother will comment on how the kitchen is not painted yet. My grandma, who has a keen eye for dust, will let me know if I missed a spot. One of my aunts makes the cakes for everyone’s birthday parties, but I told her I wanted to do this one myself and I am sure she will let me know if it is not up to standards.

I know MJ will have lots of fun tomorrow, but I sure will not. Who ever really has fun hosting the party; making sure drinks are full, there are enough snacks out…

Somehow I managed to pull together the time to write a little more for the Yahoo Contributor Network so if anyone is interested in reading one of the two articles, here they are: “Words of Wisdom” and “My Son Creates his own Photo Ops.”

Hopefully after tomorrow afternoon, I will still be sane enough to post a few pictures of the birthday boy and of the main rooms of the house that have finally been finished. I am so proud of what CJ and I have been able to do on our own. CJ even built me my dining room table! I think it is beyond gorgeous and I never knew he was so handy. 🙂

Bed early tonight beccause I have a dragon cake to finish in the morning. Rawr! 😀

Surprised…NOT

A few years ago, when I first began this blog and then abandoned it, I had written about the child care I worked at. If was affliated with a hospital. The higher-ups at said hospital decided that the child care was no longer making the amount of money they wanted it to, so they closed it. The kicker – other local child cares knew what was happening before we did because they had been informed of a possible influx of children.

I am now employed at the same hospital on a part-time basis and really rely on this position.

Yesterday, CJ called me from work. His co-worker had come into his office with the newspaper. She wanted to know why he had not told her that the hospital where his wife worked is closing. He had no idea what she was talking about. He looked up the article himself and then called me. This is how I found out that I am most likely going to lose my job if the hospital cannot restructure into an urgent care. Even then, the evening shift would not be the same, if it even was eight hours.

Lots of my other co-workers found out about the closure on the news. Absolutely none of the “average” staff were told ahead of time. Doctors, nurses, registrars, NO ONE. The only people informed ahead of time were the members of the board who sat in and made this decision.

Back to the drawing board to find new employment. I do not think I will be able to find anything that is so flexible with finding a sitter for MJ before CJ gets home and is so close to our house.

I was schocked about the closure, but not really about the way the hospital handled it. I mean, that was the same way that they had handled closing the child care, so…

Here is to speedily finding something to help with the fact that we just bought our home and really need to be able to make our mortgage payments :/

YCN

Today marks my first day as a published writer on the Yahoo Contributor Network. I know it is not a lot; CJ tells me all the time that anyone can publish stuff on there, but it is a step in the right direction for me. Anything that furthers my writing career is okay in my book. It is not a very big article, there was only a 400 word limit after all, but I am proud of it anyway.

There are still far too many boxes to be unpacked and MJ is having a field day trying to get into every single one. It is really hard to unpack around children; I am glad we only have one at the moment 🙂

CJ tried with all his might to get the wireless working so I could be up and running on here, but for all his efforts, he just could not seem to make it work. He is normally such an IT wizard that we were both shocked he could not make it work. Surprisingly enough, I am the one who got it to work although if you asked me I could not tell you how I did it.

MJ has been taking four or five steps only for the most part, but I just saw him walk across an entire room! He is only 10 months old!! Where did the time go? It really needs to slow down and it can happen at any time now.

Nap time for the little guy now, so time to get some unpacking done. All but one room that we wanted painted is done so no more pink! Will post a few pictures once there are less boxes to mar the view.
